Metro (also known as metro.co.uk) is an online newspaper published from the UK by DMG Media, part of Associated Newspapers Ltd. In June 2017 it was the fastest growing UK news website and the 6th most visited, with 2.7 million readers a day.
Metro first appeared in 2002 as the online counterpart of Metro newspaper, the free paper distributed on public transport services in cities across the UK - the UK's most-read newspaper, and the newspaper with the highest UK distribution.
In 2015, metro.co.uk became independent of the newspaper: although belonging to the same parent company and based in the same building, the newspaper and website are separate publications managed by separate editorial teams.
