Rajbagh

Rajbagh is the notified area in the municipal committee of Srinagar, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It comes under the Amira Kadal Constituency. Rajbagh is a posh locality in the civil line area of Srinagar. The pincode of Rajbagh is 190008. Rajbagh is considered one of the many best residential places in Srinagar. There are many hotels, restaurants & schools in this locality. Rajbagh area was heavily damaged by the 2014 Kashmir floods, it was one of the worst affected areas due to flood. Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami) of National Conference was the MLA of this neighbourhood until 2014 after he won the 2008 state elections. Businessman-turned politician Syed Altaf Bukhari of PDP is currently the MLA of this area which comes under the Amira Kadal constituency. He won this constituency during the 2014 state elections by a large margin thus putting an end to Wani's rule after 6 years.

Geography

Rajbagh is situated along the river banks of Jehlum River. It is located about 3.2 km from the commercial center of Kashmir.[3] Ram Munshi Bagh, Shivpora, Guzarwaan Mohalla, Jawahar Nagar are the nearby localities to Rajbagh. The area is located at an R.L. of 1592 metres above mean sea level in Mumbai.

September floods

The area was damaged quite heavily by the 2014 Kashmir floods. At about 4:18 AM on 7 September water started to enter the ground floors of the houses located in this locality & by 3 PM the water level had reached about 25 feet high above ground level on the streets. Some houses were fully submerged in water, others were partially submerged, people were rescued from their houses by locals in shikaras & rafting boats. The water finally vanished in Rajbagh after 25 days. Rajbagh was submerged under water for 25 days after the flood came. The damage level was quite high in the Rajbagh area. It was one of the worst affected areas during the flood.[4]

2014 India–Pakistan floods

In September 2014, the Kashmir region suffered disastrous floods across many of its districts caused by torrential rainfall. The Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Pakistan occupied Kashmir , Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab were affected by these floods. By 24 September 2014, nearly 277 people in India and about 280 people in Pakistan had died due to the floods.

Abdullah Bridge

Abdullah Bridge is a concrete bridge located in the Srinagar city of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a relatively new bridge replacing the nearby Zero Bridge to connect Sonwar and Rajbagh. It is named after Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, a prominent politician from Kashmir.

Doru Shahabad

Doru Shahabad (also written as Dooru Shahabad or only Doru) is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. Indira Nagar, Srinagar

Indira Nagar (Urdu;اندرا نگر) is a residential area in the Indian city of Srinagar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It used to be a lake before but now only few hundred meters of the lake is left.

This area comes under the control of Badami Bagh Cantonment along with other areas like Batwara, Shivpora and Sonwar Bagh. The cantonment is responsible for maintaining the roads, street lights etc., unlike other areas of Srinagar which are maintained by Srinagar Municipal Corporation.

Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus live in the area.

Over the years this area has been commercialised by the construction of many hotels. It is located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from the commercial hub of Kashmir Lal Chowk. Indira Nagar is near to G.B Pant Children Hospital. The pincode is 190004.This area comes in the constituency of Sonwar, for which the MLA is Mohammad Ashraf Mir.

Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement

The Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement (JKPM) is a political party in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. JKPM was launched by Shah Faesal on 17th, March 2019 in Rajbagh area of Srinagar.

Jawahar Nagar Srinagar

Jawahar Nagar is the notified area in the municipal committee of Srinagar, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It comes under the Amira Kadal Constituency. Jawahar Nagar is a posh locality in the civil line area of Srinagar. The pincode of Jawahar Nagar is 190008. Jawahar Nagar is considered one of the many best residential places in Srinagar. The airport is located at a distance of 9.3 km. Jawahar Nagar area was heavily damaged by the 2014 Kashmir floods, it was one of the worst affected areas due to flood.

Lal Chowk

Nasir Aslam Wani

Nasir Aslam Wani (also known as: Nasir Sogami; born 31 August 1964 in Rajbagh, Srinagar), is a politician of Jammu and Kashmir and belongs to National Conference party. He has served the State as the Minister of State for Tourism & Culture, Housing & Urban Development, PHE, Revenue & Relief and later taking on responsibility for the Home department as an additional portfolio.

Nasir Aslam Wani is presently the Provincial President of National Conference for Kashmir.

Nasir Aslam Wani is the grandson of a Legendary politician, then Cabinet Minister and MLA Lolab, Late Ghulam Nabi Wani Sogami.

He contested elections in 2008 from Amirakadal Constituency, the main Business, Commercial and Educational hub of summer capital Srinagar.

Nowshera, Srinagar

Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School

Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School is a private, Christian, English-medium school for girls in Rajbagh, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was a secondary school until 2009 when the principal, Sr. Jyoti, inaugurated the Nagle Block after which the school became a higher secondary school. It is run by Christian missionaries.

Sonwar Bagh

Sonwar Bagh, sometimes referred to as Sonwar, is a residential area in Badami Bagh Cantonment on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It is gradually becoming more commercial, as many schools, hotels and restaurants have been established there.

It is home to many politicians like the ex-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah

who became the 11th, and youngest, Chief Minister of the Indian Administered state Jammu and Kashmir.

Sonwar Bagh was one of the worst affected areas from the 2014 India–Pakistan floods in Jammu and Kashmir. It is surrounded by Sulaiman Hill on top of which is Shankaracharya Temple.

Zero Bridge

The Zero Bridge is an old wooden arch bridge located in the Srinagar city of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It crosses the Jhelum river in a roughly North-South direction connecting Sonwar in the north to Rajbagh in the South. Originally constructed in the late 1950s under the then prime minister Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad, the bridge was closed for vehicular traffic in the late 1980s owing to the weakening of its wooden structure.
