Maninagar is an area of Ahmedabad city, Gujarat, India. It is located in the southern part of the city and an important area of the city. It can be divided into two regions - Maninagar East and Maninagar West, separated by the Maninagar Railway Station.

Maninagar is originally a Land that belonged to Seth Maneklal Manilal, a powerful banker. He donated a big piece of this land to develop the first organized settlement outside the walled city. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel created the first town planning scheme for Manipur, now called Maninagar.[1][2]


The Kankaria lake and Nagina Wadi are situated in this area. This area also hosts a train station on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai line where most of the major trains stop.

Maninagar is also the entrance to the Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway.

Maninagar is probably the only locality in ahmedabad which has a railway station, municipal bus transport station and a state transport station. All at one point. Apart from this you now have a BRTS hub (Bus Rapid Transit System). So all in all, you have every mode of transport available in maninagar. Maninagar is connected to all parts of the city through this stations. Maninagar is also well connected through NH-8 (old) and expressway.

Movie Theaters

Maninagar has 2 old theaters named - "Apsara- Aradhana" near Kankaria Lake and "Meera" near Shah-Alam. It also has a theater named Anupam which was recently renovated. It has also City Pulse.


Physical Ground is a multi-sports stadium situated in Khokhra. It was inaugurated in the year 2010. The stadium serves place to play sports like cricket, football, badminton, chess, wrestling, judo, and basketball.

In the month of March 2011, Gujarat state level; chess competition, 200 m running, kabbadi, cricket and badminton were held

It was one of the centers for Khel-Maha-kumbh that was held in 2011 by Government of Gujarat.

2012 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election

The 2012 Gujarat legislative assembly elections were held in the Indian state of Gujarat in December 2012 for all 182 members of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Incumbent Chief Minister Narendra Modi of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), in power since 2002, was running for his fourth term. The leader of the opposition was Shaktisinh Gohil of the Indian National Congress (INC).

Elections were held in two phases, the first on 13 December and second on 17 December 2012. Total voting turnout of both phases was 71.32%, highest since 1980. Results were declared on 20 December 2012.

The BJP, led by Narendra Modi, won 116 seats out of total 182 seats and formed the government while INC won 60 seats. BJP has been in the power in Gujarat since 1995.

AMC MET Medical College

AMC MET Medical College is a medical college in Maninagar, Ahmedabad. The college was established in 2009 and is maintained by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Medical Education Trust. It is affiliated to the Gujarat University and the Seth L.G. hospital. The foundation stone of the college was laid by the prime minister Narendra Modi who the MLA from the Maninagar constituency at that time. The college enrolls 150 students every year for the undergraduate MBBS course. The post graduation seats in the non-clinical branches were approved in 2014 by the Medical Council of India.Clinical seats for post graduation also passed in 2016 by Medical Council of India which is 28 in number. Now AMC MET MEDICAL COLLEGE has increased PG seats which are 99 in number. Sheth LG Hospital has 750 beds and AMC MET MEDICAL COLLEGE is affiliated to this hospital.

Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transit System

Janmarg, also known as Ahmedabad BRTS, is a bus rapid transit system in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is operated by Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, a subsidiary of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and others. It is designed by CEPT University. It was inaugurated in October 2009. The network expanded to 89 kilometres (55 mi) by December 2017 with daily ridership of 3,49,000 passengers. BRTS won several nation and international awards for design, implementation and operation. It was rated Silver on BRT Standard in 2013.

Geography of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is located on the banks of the River Sabarmati in the northern part of Gujarat and the western part of India. It is located at 23.03°N 72.58°E / 23.03; 72.58 spanning an area of 205 km². The average elevation is 53 metres.

There are two main lakes located in the city limits – the Kankaria lake, and the Vastapur lake. Kankaria lake, located in Maninagar, is an artificial lake developed by Qutb-ud-din Aybak in 1451. It also has an aquarium and a zoo. In the middle of the lake is an island palace named Naginawadi, built during the Mughal era. The city is located in a sandy and dry area. Except for the small hills of Thaltej-Jodhpur Tekra, the entire city is almost flat. The Sabarmati bifurcates the city into eastern and western parts, connected by five bridges, two of which were constructed after independence. Though the river is perennial, it gets dried up in the summer, leaving only a small stream of water flowing.

There are typically three main seasons – summer, monsoon and winter. Barring monsoon, the climate is very dry. The weather is very hot during the months of March to June with the average summer temperature ranging from maximum 43 °C to minimum 23 °C. The months of November to February have an average maximum temperature 36 °C and a minimum of 15 °C. The climate is extremely dry during that period. Cold northerly winds are responsible for a mild chill during January. The south-west monsoon winds bring humid climate to Ahmedabad from mid-June to mid-September. The average rainfall is 932 mm. The highest temperature recorded is 47 °C and the lowest is 5 °C.Ahmedabad is divided by the Sabarmati into two physically distinct areas. The eastern bank of the river houses the old city which has packed bazaars, a pol system of houses, and many places of worship like temples and mosques. The old city also houses the main railway station and the General Post Office. The colonial period saw the expansion of the city to the western side of Sabarmati falicitated by the construction of Ellis Bridge in 1875. This part of the city houses educational institutions, modern buildings, well-planned residential areas, shopping malls, multiplexes and new business districts centred on the C.G. Road, Ashram Road and more recently the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway.

Sabarmati Ashram, also known as Gandhi Ashram, is located on the Western banks of Sabarmati River, in Northern Ahmedabad, was the residence of Mahatma Gandhi, and it was from there that he started the Dandi March in 1930. This ashram originally was established in the Kochrab area of Ahmedabad in 1915. In 1917 it was shifted to the present place. It also is known as Harijan Ashram, or Satyagraha Ashram. It was the scene of many events of the Indian independence movement.

Kamlesh Patel (politician)

Kankaria Lake

Kankaria Lake is the second largest lake in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is located in the south-eastern part of the city, in the Maninagar area. It was completed in 1451 during the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II though its origin is placed in the Chaulukya period sometimes. A lakefront is developed around it, which has many public attractions such as a zoo, toy train, kids city, tethered balloon ride, water rides, water park, food stalls, and entertainment facilities. The lakefront was revamped in 2008. Kankaria Carnival is a week-long festival held here in the last week of December. Many cultural, art, and social activities are organised during the carnival.

Suresh Dhanjibhai Patel is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Patel is a first term member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in 2014 from the Maninagar constituency in Eastern side of city Ahmedabad. He was chosen as replacement of Narendra Modi who resigned from the seat to become Prime Minister of India.
