Kolkata metropolitan area

Kolkata Metropolitan Area, also known as the Calcutta Metropolitan Area and Greater Kolkata, is the urban agglomeration of the city of Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the third most populous metropolitan area in India after Delhi and Mumbai. The area is administered by the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. The area covers 72 cities, and 527 towns and villages.[2][3]

According to the 2011 census data, the total population of the Kolkata metropolitan area was 14,112,536. KMDA report states the total area is 1,886.67 km², making the population density 7,480 per km².

Bally, Howrah

Bally is a neighbourhood in the city of Howrah of Howrah district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA).

Barasat

Barasat City () is a city and a municipality in Kolkata Metropolitan Area and close to Kolkata. It is the headquarters of the North 24 parganas and Barasat Sadar subdivision. It is also a regional transportation hub at a rail and road junction. Several roads, including National Highway 12 (formerly NH 34, towards North Bengal), National Highway 112 (Jessore Road, leading to the Bangladesh border at Petrapole), and the road to Basirhat pass through the city.

Belur, West Bengal

Belur is a neighbourhood in Howrah city of Howrah district, West Bengal, India, on the west bank of the Hooghly River. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). The area is best known for Belur Math, a religious monastery containing a complex of temples. Belur Math is famous for being the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math, a monastic order, as well as that of the related Ramakrishna Mission, both founded by Swami Vivekananda. On the opposite side of the Hooghly river, opposite to Belur Math is the Dakshineswar Kali Temple.

It was named after goddess Durga.
