Karan Nagar

Karan Nagar is the notified area and the town in the city of Srinagar in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. A portion of Karan Nagar in the name of Deewan Bagh was the first declared civil colony in 1942 by the former princely state government of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a posh locality of srinagar city. The famous SMHS hospital and Government Medical College is located here. It is located about 2 km from the commercial center of Kashmir.

History

The town had the decent population of Kashmiri Pandits before their exile in last decade of twentieth century. The town is named after the name Karan. At present Muslims dominate the population of the area at an estimated percentage of 99.9%.

Demographics

Kashmiri is the local language in the area, people also use English and Urdu as the official languages of the area.

Geography

The area is located 34°04′45″N 74°47′56″E / 34.0791°N 74.799°E 2 km towards north from District headquarters of Srinagar. The area is bounded by Lal Chowk towards South, Batmaloo towards West, Safa Kadal towards North and Nawabazar towards East.The area is situated at an elevation of 1592 m above mean sea level in Mumbai.[1]

Buchpora

Buchpora (Urdu; بژھ پورہ) (Kashmiri; بَژھ پوُر)is a town on the outskirts of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is situated on Srinagar-Leh Highway on the eastern side of Anchar Lake. The postal code of the area is 190020. The area is about 12.1 km north from Lal Chowk.

Most of the current inhabitants of the area are migrants from Downtown of Srinagar. During the project of widening the roads in Downtown, numerous houses obstructing the widening of roads were shattered down. The homeless people were given plots of land by state government in neighbouring areas including Buchpora and Soura. Thus government housing colonies were constructed in these areas. there are many areas adjacent to this area , Illahi bagh, Rang pora, Umerhaira, are some of them. The area was an agriculture land but has been converted into a residential area.

The area provides two major road links which connect Ganderbal with Srinagar.

Doru Shahabad

Doru Shahabad (also written as Dooru Shahabad or only Doru) is a town and a notified area committee in Anantnag district of the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. It is also known as historical township in South Kashmir's Anantnag district. Doru shahabad has been known as a place of intelligentia where great scholars like Mehmood shah Gami, Rasul Mir shahabadi, were borne who contributed to the literature and culture of kashmir. In present times shahabad has produced chief minister like syed mir qasim and many other politicians, beuracrates and some leading agricultural scientists.

I Am (2010 Indian film)

I Am is a 2011 Indian anthology film by Onir. It consists of four short films: "Omar", "Afia", "Abhimanyu", and "Megha". Each film shares the common theme of fear, and each film is based on real-life stories. The film was financed by donations from more than 400 different people around the world, many of whom donated through social networking sites like Facebook. There are four stories but the characters are interwoven with each story. "Abhimanyu" is based on child abuse, "Omar" on gay rights, "Megha" is about Kashmiri Pandits and "Afia" deals with sperm donation. I Am was released with subtitles in all regions as six different languages are spoken in the film: Hindi, English, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali and Kashmiri.

Jawahar Nagar is the notified area in the municipal committee of Srinagar, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It comes under the Amira Kadal Constituency. Jawahar Nagar is a posh locality in the civil line area of Srinagar. The pincode of Jawahar Nagar is 190008. Jawahar Nagar is considered one of the many best residential places in Srinagar. The airport is located at a distance of 9.3 km. Jawahar Nagar area was heavily damaged by the 2014 Kashmir floods, it was one of the worst affected areas due to flood.

Kishtwar National Park is a national park located in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is bounded to the north by Rinnay river, south by Kibar Nala catchment, east by main divide of Great Himalaya and west by Marwa river.

Leh district

Leh is one of the two districts located in Ladakh, the other being the Kargil District to the west, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India. With an area of 45,110 km2, it is the second largest district in the country (after Kutch, Gujarat) in terms of area. Rehana Kousar (in-charge, NTCP, Kashmir) said that work was done with civil society, religious and women's groups and that a "major success was achieved by the involvement of women in the anti-tobacco campaign."

Nasir Aslam Wani (Sogami) of National Conference was the MLA of this neighbourhood until 2014 after he won the 2008 state elections. Businessman-turned politician Syed Altaf Bukhari of PDP is currently the MLA of this area which comes under the Amira Kadal constituency. He won this constituency during the 2014 state elections by a large margin thus putting an end to Wani's rule after 6 years.

SMHS Hospital

'Shri Maharaja Hari Singh or SMHS Hospital or Headwin Hospital is the multi-speciality hospital in the Karan Nagar area of Srinagar. In 1959, Government Medical College was also established on the same campus giving the medical students opportunity to examine the patients of the hospital during their undergraduate and post graduate courses to gain experience and practical knowledge. The students of the college under proper supervision visit the hospital for the treatment of patients. During the September 2014 floods the hospital was damaged and people suffered enormously due to scarcity of medic facilities. The ophthalmology department at the SMHS Hospital has treated more than a thousand pellet gun victims of Indian police shootings, from July 2016 till June 2018. They are treated in the hospital’s four operating theaters, as well as a trauma theater in the emergency department.
