Itarsi is a town in Madhya Pradesh, India in Hoshangabad District.[2] Itarsi is a key hub for agricultural goods and is one of the earliest railway junctions in Madhya Pradesh. Rail services from all 4 major metropolitan cities of India namely Mumbai to Calcutta and Delhi to Chennai pass through Itarsi.Itarsi is developing and in future Itarsi is a part of Hoshangabad Itarsi got its name by "eeta(eent)", (literally means brick in Hindi) and "rassi", (literally means rope in Hindi). Bricks and ropes had been made earlier in itarsi. It has Ordnance Factory.[3] The Bori Wildlife Sanctuary and Tawa Dam are nearby.

Itarsi is a sub district in the Hoshangabad district, in the state of Madhya Pradesh.The total population in Itarsi sub district is 240,719 as per the survey of census during 2011 by Indian Government. Of this about 123,325 people are living in the urban (towns and cities) area and about 117,394 are living in villages (rural areas)

The city is a Tehsil under Hoshangabad District. It is a part of Hoshangabad Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) & comes under Hoshangabad - Narsinghpur Loksabha (Parliament) constituency.


Itarsi Junction railway station

Itarsi is one of the major junctions in India, at the crossing of important east-west and north-south routes. Itarsi comes under West Central Railway zone whose headquarters is in Jabalpur. Itarsi is connected via broad gauge lines to Bhopal and Delhi to the north, Bhusawal and Mumbai to the west, the railway junctions of Nagpur to the south and Jabalpur to the east. Rail services from Mumbai to Guwahati and Delhi to Chennai pass through Itarsi. 250 trains are daily passing through. Itarsi runs one express train — Vindhyachal express — and it runs three passenger trains in Jabalpur route daily. Itarsi is the busy railway station in Bhopal division. The new platforms 6 and 7 opened for Jabalpur, Nagpur and Bhusawal routes.

Apart from railway, National Highway (NH-69) connects Itarsi to major cities Bhopal and Nagpur. New Four lane roads are under the making in to be functional under 5 years. Four Duronto Express trains have technical halts at Itarsi.

Bagra Tawa is a railway station on Jabalpur - Itarsi railway line. under West Central Railway zone of Indian Railway, which falls under administrative preview of Jabalpur Division of Railways. The station came into existence in when during 1869-71, the Itarsi to Jabalpur lines were built by Great Indian Peninsula Railway.

The train passes through a tunnel near Bagra Tawa and then crosses the bridge over Tawa River few kilometers down from village. The Tawa Dam is located nearby the station.

The station code is 'BGTA'. The immediate preceding station while coming from Itarsi junction is Sontalai and towards Jabalpur side is Guramkhedi.

Bhopal–Nagpur section

The GT46PAC is a passenger version of the previous Indian Railways EMD GT46MAC freight locomotive. The locomotive has a 16-cylinder 710G3B diesel engine with a maximum speed of 904 RPM.

Rajendra Nagar Terminal-Mumbai Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Janata Express also derailed at the same spot.

Itarsi Junction railway station

Itarsi Junction (station code: ET) is a railway station in Hoshangabad District in Madhya Pradesh from which more than 345 trains passes everyday. It falls under the West Central Railway zone of Indian Railways network. It is located 18 kilometres (11 mi) away from Hoshangabad by train, and by road it is 20 kilometers. Trains from Central Railway undergo engine changes here i.e. electric engines of WAP/WAM/WAG class are changed to diesel engines of WDP/WDM/WDG class and vice versa. These changes happen for trains which pass through Jabalpur-Katni-Satna railway line and sometimes for trains which pass through Bhopal.

Narsinghpur railway station

Narsinghpur railway station is a railway station serving Narsinghpur city, in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh State of India. It is under Jabalpur railway division of West Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways. It is located on Jabalpur-Itarsi main line of the Indian Railways.

It is located at 353 m above sea level and has two platforms. As of 2018, electrification of existing double Broad Gauge railway line is completed and at this station, 85 trains stops.

This will provide and alternative North South Route Via Lalitpur-Sagar-Narsinghpur-Chhindwara-Nagpur route alternative to Bina-Bhopal-Itarsi-Amla-Betul-Nagpur route thereby decreasing the distance between North South by nearly 300 km. Kareli Railway Station will serve as an alternative to Itarsi Junction. This railway line will help in connecting Itarsi-Narsinghpur-Jabalpur-katni stretch and Itarsi - Bhopal-Bina-Saugor-Katni stretch of West Central Railways. Recently CCEA also Sanctioned Gadarwara-Indore new rail line via Budni. These two rail lines in combination will reduce the distance of State's Financial Capital Indore from District like Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Hoshangabad, Sagar, Chhindwara which will help in industrial and economic development of these regions"

The Rewa - Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Mhow Express is a tri-weekly Mail/Express inter city train service which will run between Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Mhow of Indore, the largest city and commercial hub of Central Indian state Madhya Pradesh and Rewa Terminal, a major city in Madhya Pradesh, India. Train was announced in Rail-Budget 2012–13 and the train was flagged off on 5 March 2013 from Indore Junction.

In July 2017, the service of the train was extended Dr. Ambedkar Nagar Mhow on Tri-weekly basis.
