World heritage site

Allgäu Railway (Bavaria)

The Bavarian Allgäu railway (German: Bayerische Allgäubahn) is a railway line in the German state of Bavaria, running from Munich to Lindau via Buchloe, Kaufbeuren and Kempten. The southern part of the line runs through the Allgäu region. The section from Buchloe to Lindau was built as part of the Ludwig South-North Railway, one of the oldest lines in Germany.

Ammersee Railway

The Ammersee Railway (German: Ammerseebahn) is a 54 km long single-tracked main line in the provinces of Swabia and Upper Bavaria in southern Germany. It runs from Mering near Augsburg via Geltendorf to Weilheim and is listed by the Deutsche Bahn as Kursbuchstrecke 985.

Augsburg-Hochzoll station

Augsburg-Hochzoll station is a station in the Hochzoll district east of central Augsburg in the German state of Bavaria. Directly west of the station the Paar Valley Railway separates from the Munich–Augsburg railway running from Augsburg Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 3 station.

Augsburg Haunstetterstraße station

Augsburg Haunstetterstraße station is a station south of central Augsburg in the German state of Bavaria. It lies on a railway bridge over Haunstetter Straße, formerly written "Haunstetterstraße", and extends west to the Hochfeld bridge, which has been directly accessible via a staircase from the platform since December 2009. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 3 station. The station has been considerably remodelled in recent years as part of the upgrading of the Munich–Augsburg railway to have four tracks and is now mainly used to transfer between regional trains and tram lines 2, 3 and special event tram lines 8 and 9.

Augsburg Hauptbahnhof

Augsburg Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in the Bavarian city of Augsburg, situated in southern Germany. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 2 station and has 12 platform tracks.

The station has one of the oldest still existing station halls in Germany, which was built from 1843 to 1846 after plans by architect Eduard Rüber. It was reconstructed in 1869 according to Friedrich Bürklein's plans. The station today serves as the central railway hub for the Augsburg metropolitan area and Bavarian Swabia. It is currently being modernised and an underground tram station is being built under it.

Ebersberg station

Ebersberg station is a railway station in the municipality of Ebersberg, located in the Ebersberg district in Upper Bavaria, Germany.

The station is called "Ebersberg (Oberbay) Bf" for regional trains except S-train. The name within the S-train system is "Ebersberg".

Geltendorf station

Geltendorf station is the largest railway station of the town of Geltendorf and is a railway junction in Upper Bavaria, Germany. The railway junction is also a station of the Munich S-Bahn. It has five platforms and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 3 station. The station is served by about 150 trains daily of Deutsche Bahn, Bayerische Regiobahn (a subsidiary of Veolia Verkehr, BRB) and Regentalbahn, including 50 services of the Munich S-Bahn. The Bavarian Allgäu Railway and the Ammersee Railway cross at the station.

Geltendorf municipality also includes Walleshausen station and the disused stations of Kaltenberg and Wabern, all located on the Ammersee Railway.


Giełczyce [ɡʲɛu̯ˈt͡ʂɨt͡sɛ] (German: Geltendorf) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Skoroszyce, within Nysa County, Opole Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) south-east of Skoroszyce, 15 km (9 mi) north-east of Nysa, and 37 km (23 mi) west of the regional capital Opole.

Before 1945 the area was part of Germany (see Territorial changes of Poland after World War II).

Munich S-Bahn

The Munich S-Bahn (German: S-Bahn München) is an electric rail transit system in Munich, Germany. "S-Bahn" is the German abbreviation for Stadtschnellbahn (literally, "urban rapid rail"), and the Munich S-Bahn exhibits characteristics of both rapid transit and commuter rail systems.

The Munich S-Bahn network is operated by S-Bahn München, a subsidiary of DB Regio Bayern that is itself a subsidiary of the German national railway. It is integrated into the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund, MVV) and interconnected throughout the city with the locally owned Munich U-Bahn. Today, the S-Bahn covers most of the populated area of the Munich Metropolitan area of about 2.7 million inhabitants.

The Munich S-Bahn was established on 28 May 1972. It was intended as part of the scheme to provide an adequate transport system during the 1972 Summer Olympics held in Munich by connecting the pre-existing suburban rail services in the west and east of the city via a new tunnel section from Hauptbahnhof to München Ost station (Ostbahnhof).

Munich Trudering station

Trudering station is an interchange station of the Munich S-Bahn and the Munich U-Bahn in the borough of Trudering-Riem in the Bavarian capital of Munich.

S4 (Munich)

Line S4 is a line on the Munich S-Bahn network. It is operated by DB Regio Bayern. It runs from Geltendorf station to Ebersberg station via Pasing, central Munich, Munich East and Grafing station.

The line is operated at 20 minute intervals between Grafrath or Buchenau and Grafing station. Two out of three trains an hour continue from Buchenau to Geltendorf and from Grafing station to Ebersberg, so that the gap between trains alternates between 20 and 40 minutes. It is operated using class 423 four-car electrical multiple units, usually as two coupled sets. In the evenings and on Sundays they generally run as single sets.

from Pasing to the approaches to Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) over a section of the S-Bahn trunk line laid parallel to the Munich–Augsburg railway, opened by the Munich–Augsburg Railway Company from Munich to Pasing on 1 September 1839

the underground section of the S-Bahn trunk line from the approaches to Munich Central Station to Munich East station, opened on 1 May 1971

from Munich East station to Grafing station on the Munich–Rosenheim railway, opened by the Royal Bavarian State Railways on 15 October 1871 and electrified on 12 April 1927.

from Grafing station to Ebersberg over the Grafing–Wasserburg railway, opened by the Royal Bavarian State Railways on 6 November 1899 and electrified in 1969.S-Bahn services on line S 4 between Geltendorf and Ebersberg commenced on 28 May 1972. For a period up to 2009, the section from Munich East to Ebersberg was operated as the former line S 5.

Schloss Kaltenberg

The Schloss Kaltenberg is a castle in the village of Geltendorf in Upper Bavaria, Germany. The castle was built in 1292 and is currently under the proprietorship of Prince Luitpold of Bavaria, the great-grandson of the last king of Bavaria, Ludwig III.

Weilheim (Oberbay) station

Weilheim (Oberbay) station is the station of the Bavarian district town of Weilheim in Oberbayern. It is a crossing station on the Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway, the Ammersee Railway from Mering and the Weilheim–Schongau railway. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station and has five platform tracks. It is served by about 100 trains daily operated by Deutsche Bahn and Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB).

At the opening of the station in Weilheim on 1 February 1866, it was a through station on the Munich–Unterpeißenberg line. With the opening of the line to Murnau on 15 May 1879, which was extended to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1889, it became a “separation” station (Trennungsbahnhof) and with the opening of the Ammersee Railway on 30 June 1898 it became a “crossing” station (Kreuzungsbahnhof). It has a small locomotive depot until 1986 with a roundhouse and a turntable.
