Dominican Summer League

The Dominican Summer League is a branch of affiliated Minor League Baseball which is played in the Dominican Republic. The league was founded in 1985. After the demise of the Venezuelan Summer League after the 2015 season, it is the only Latin American based rookie league.[1]

The 2018 72-game season starts June 2 and ends August 25 with the playoffs starting on August 27.

The league will be played with forty-four teams in six divisions. With the exception of the cooperative team formed by the Brewers and Indians, each team is affiliated with a different major league franchise with thirteen organizations fielding two teams: the Cardinals, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Pirates, Rangers, Rays, Red Sox, Rockies, Royals and Tigers.

The six division winners advance to the playoffs. The two division champions with the best winning percentages receive byes to the semifinals.

Dominican Summer League Athletics

The Dominican Summer League Athletics or DSL Athletics are a Minor League Baseball team of the Dominican Summer League that began play in 1989 as a rookie-level affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. They are located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and play their home games at the Juan Marichal Complex. Two DSL Athletics squads existed between 1997 and 2008—DSL Athletics East and West (1997–2002) and DSL Athletics 1 and 2 (2003–08).

They have operated since 1989. Occasionally the Dodgers have fielded two teams in the DSL. In 1990, they had the DSL Cibao Dodgers and the DSL San Pedro de Macoris Dodgers and from 1992–2004 they had the DSL Dodgers 1 and DSL Dodgers 2.

Dominican Summer League Giants

The Dominican Summer League Giants or DSL Giants are a minor league baseball team in the Dominican Summer League. The team plays in the Boca Chica South division and is affiliated with the San Francisco Giants.

Dominican Summer League Indians

The Dominican Summer League Indians are a minor league baseball team in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. They are a Rookie-level team in the Dominican Summer League and are an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Since 2011, the DSL Indians have played their home games at the Academia de Prospecto Complex in San Antonio de Guerra.As of the 2017 season, the Indians operate an additional club, the DSL Indians/Brewers, with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Dominican Summer League Mets

After withdrawing their affiliate from the Venezuelan Summer League, the Major League Baseball's New York Mets have had two affiliates in the Dominican Summer League since the 2010 season. The DSL Mets 1 play in the Boca Chica South division while the DSL Mets 2 play in the Boca Chica North division.

Dominican Summer League Orioles

The Dominican Summer Orioles are a minor league baseball team of the Dominican Summer League. They are located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and play their home games at Baseball City Complex. The team plays in the Boca Chica Baseball City division and is affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles.

Dominican Summer League Phillies

The Dominican Summer Phillies are a minor league baseball team in the Dominican Summer League. The team plays in the Boca Chica North division and is affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Dominican Summer League Pirates

The Dominican Summer Pirates are a minor league baseball team in the Dominican Summer League. The team, also known as the DSL Pirates, plays in the Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, as a member of the Boca Chica North Division and are affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Past players include Aramis Ramírez, José Guillén and Ronny Paulino. The club was known as the Dominican Summer League Pirates 1, or DSL Pirates 1, between 2012 and 2013, when the Venezuelan Summer Pirates were relocated to the Dominican Republic to become the Dominican Summer League Pirates 2. In 2014, the Pirates returned to fielding one DSL team, and the team became known once again as the DSL Pirates.

Dominican Summer League Rangers

The Dominican Summer League Rangers or DSL Rangers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Dominican Summer League and Rookie affiliates of the Texas Rangers. They are located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and play their home games at the Texas Rangers Complex. The team has been split into two squads, DSL Rangers 1 and DSL Rangers 2, since 2014.

Dominican Summer League Red Sox

The Dominican Summer League Red Sox, often called the DSL Red Sox, are a Minor League Baseball affiliate of the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball, playing in the foreign Dominican Summer League. The team, classed as a Rookie League franchise, plays at the El Toro Complex in the Dominican Republic.

For the 2019 Boston Red Sox season, the field coordinator is José Zapata, and the Red Sox are fielding two teams; one managed by Fernando Tatís and the other managed by Ozzie Chavez.

The Dominican Summer League Reds are a minor league baseball team of the Dominican Summer League. They are located in Boca Chica, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and play their home games at Ciudad de Baseball. The team plays in the Boca Chica Baseball City division and is affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Dominican Summer Tigers are a minor league baseball team in the Dominican Summer League. The team plays in the San Pedro de Macoris division and is affiliated with the Detroit Tigers.
