Defence Colony

Defence Colony is an affluent locality situated in central South Delhi, India, built in 1960s for ex-defence service people.[1][2] Today, Defence Colony market is home to around twenty restaurants and coffee shops, besides high-end shops.[3][4]

Defence Colony was created in the aftermath of the partition in 1947. Newly independent India allotted land to resettle serving Indian military officers whose homes lay across the new border in Muslim-majority Pakistan.[5] Besides its central location from most parts of the city of Delhi, the locality is immensely popular among all Delhiites for the exotic varieties of cuisines that it has on offer. There are many restaurants in Defence Colony. [6]

Defence Colony Welfare Association Club, commonly referred as Defence Colony Club was established in 1976 as Defence Colony Ex. Services Institute, however it was renamed in 1980, and functions under the Defence Colony Welfare Association.[7]

Historic monuments

Close to the main Defence Colony market inside a round about, stands the octagonal tomb of Shaikh Ali, known as "Gumti of Shaikh Ali". Built in the 15th-century Lodhi dynasty-era, near the historic area of Kotla Mubarakpur, it housed two graves inside the tomb till early 20th-century, which are now long gone. The tomb houses the Defence Colony Welfare Association (DCWA) office, since 1960.[8][9]


Defence Colony is accessible by means of public transport including autos, taxis, buses as well as the Delhi Metro, which commenced services adjacent to the area in October 2010. Thus, if you are looking to get to Defence Colony by the Delhi Metro, hop off at the Lajpat Nagar station and cross the road using the overhead bridge as Defence Colony is on the opposite side of the road.

Bhuteshwar Temple

Bhuteshwar Temple is a Hindu temple, in the series of 48 kos parikrama of Kurukshetra, dedicated to Bhuteshwar, a manifestation of Shiva. Situated in Jind, Haryana, the city noted for its countless temples that are devoted to Lord Shiva. The ruler of the district, Raghbir Singh, constructed a temple, which came to be known as the Bhuteshvara temple. This temple is dedicated to Shiva. It has a large water tank all-around it and this is the reason that the Bhuteshvara temple is also recognized as Rani Talab. The word 'ta-lab' is a Hindi word, which means pond.The tourists almost all round the year visit this well-known temple. There are a lot more to see in Jind, like the Hari Kailash temples, Jawala Maleshvara tirath, Dhamtan Sahib Gurudwara and the Surya Kund tanks. One very famous temple, which holds much significance regarding the history of the district, is the Jayanti Devi Temple.

The other places of worship are the temples of Hari Kailash, tanks of Surya Kund, Jawala Malesh-vara tirath. A sacred gurdwara is also present in the town, which is built in memory of Guru Teg Bahadur

There is mythology behind the name Rani Talab that the Rani of Maharaja Ranbir singh take bath in this pond every night after crossing a "surang" remnants of which are still present. that's why this is called as Rani Talab. This is present on the Gohana road which is also called as the life line of this ancient city. All the important destinations lies on this road like govt. hospital, city Jail, S.P residence, Police line, Defence colony, University etc.

Gulmohar Park

Gulmohar Park is an affluent, upmarket and green neighbourhood in South Delhi.Presently this park is maintained by Delhi Development Authority Horticulture division 6 and official Incharge of this park is Miss Kanchan (Sectional Officer Horticulture) . This park lies between Hauz Khas and Gautam Nagar and is named after the red-flowered Gulmohar trees (Delonix regia) growing inside. The nearby residential colony is known as Gulmohar Park Journalists' Colony or simply Gulmohar Park for short, and was established by a group of journalists in the 1970s and is today home to top notch business people, senior lawyers and cine star Amitabh Bachchan's Delhi residence.Gulmohar Park is surrounded by Balbir Saxena Marg and Hauz Khas to the south, Yusuf Sarai, Gulmohar enclave and Gautam Nagar to the west, Neeti Bagh to the north and August Kranti Marg and Siri Fort to the east.

The colony covers 43 acres (170,000 m2) and has 13 parks inside. It is divided into four blocks (A, B, C and D) and also contains a DDA market and a residents' club (Gulmohar Club). Inside the colony is a police post, part of the Defence Colony Police Station.


Indiranagar is a medium-sized neighbourhood in east Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It is one of Bangalore's newer areas. It is bounded by the Ulsoor to the west, Domlur to the south, Byappanahalli to the north and Vimanapura to the east. Indiranagar is one of the most expensive localities in Bangalore.


Izzatnagar is a locality in Bareilly in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The railway station it houses is one of the Divisional Headquarters of North Eastern Railways. Beginning from the east and moving clockwise, it is bordered by the Mathura Road, Ring Railway line, Silver Oak Park beyond the Defence Colony Flyover, and the Barapulla Nullah. It encompasses the residential areas of Jangpura A and B on either side of the Mathura Road, jangpura(Bhogal) extending west from the Mathura Road until Jangpura Extension, which in turn extends along the northern side of the Ring Railway line to the east side of the Defence Colony Flyover on Josip Broz Tito Marg. The small colony of Pant Nagar along the Barapulla Nullah is contiguous with Jangpura Extension.

Jangpura is a Delhi Legislative Assembly constituency within the South Delhi Lok Sabha seat, following the delimitation of the parliamentary constituencies, since 2008, prior to which it was part of the New Delhi constituency.

Karkhana, Secunderabad

Karkhana is a Locality in the city of Secunderabad, India. Part of the Trimulgherry Mandal, Karkhana is approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from Secunderabad station and approximately 1-kilometre (0.62 mi) from Jubilee Bus stand. The region has experienced a real estate boom in recent years and has become a base for a number of small IT start-ups. It can be reached easily by public transport and is well connected to surrounding areas.

Kotla Mubarakpur Complex

Kotla Mubarakpur Complex, a medieval village, is now an upscale market place with a residential colony in South Delhi. The village Kotla Mubarakpur dominates Bainsla gotra of Gurjars in India. Classified by the Delhi Development Authority (D.D.A.) as an Urban Village, it is situated within touch of South Extension-I. Its main road connected opposite with Defence Colony. Nearest Delhi Metro station is South Extension, INA and Lajpat Nagar. Its history can be traced to the prominent tomb of Muizud Din Mubarak Shah, son of Khizr Khan of the Sayyid dynasty of the fifteenth century Delhi Sultanate rule in India, and its adjoining mosque. There are several other tombs of Lodi Dynasty period such as the Darya Khan's tomb, Kale Khan ka Gumbad, Bare Khan ka Gumbad, Chote Khan Ka Gumbad and Bhure Khan ka Gumbad, and also a Baoli (step well).Khizr Khan who was the governor of Punjab under the Lodi dynasty took over the reins at Delhi, in 1414 AD, after defeating Daulat Khan Lodi. He established the Sayyid dynasty, which had four successors till 1451 AD. His son Muizud Din Mubarak Shah succeeded him. He established a city called Mubarakabad on the banks of the Yamuna River, but no trace of it exists now. He died in 1434 AD and he was buried in Kotla Mubarakpur, named after him. His tomb was built in a fusion of Lodi style octagonal plan combined with Tughlaq style buttresses and wide dome.

Lady Irwin School

Lady Irwin School for Girls is an educational institution in New Delhi, India, established in 1927. It is a composite English medium school from class I to class XII affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. It has a nursery section.

Sainikpuri lies to the northeast of the city Secunderabad. K Rao and Late Brig S.N.Docca (former commandant of EME School now (MCEME) and Late Lt. Col. Tiwari Singh were the first few to have got plots in the society and had a vision that the colony would grow into an elite area. The College of Defence Management (CDM), which is a premier establishment of the Indian Army, is located near Sainikpuri, Ammuguda. The area is well planned and maintained. There is an abundance of lush greenery. Roads are well laid and numbered. Now considered a posh area, old buildings are slowly giving way to multi-storied apartments, and it is now beyond the reach of middle-class to acquire living space in this area.

Shivalik colony

Shivalik colony is a small locality in South Delhi. It is bounded by Geetanjali enclave, Navjeevan Vihar

on its west, Saket at its south, Khidki on its east and Begumpur being at its north. The languages commonly spoken here are Hindi and English. It is divided into different colonies.

Shivalik Colony is an upper middle-class residential area in Malviya Nagar. The locality was first inhabited by Refugees from India-Pakistan Partition, but now is more of a cosmopolitan location. The peaceful locality has many beautiful houses, apartments and parks. The locality is safe and many shopping and commercial centres are in the nearby areas. Many restaurants, entertainment options are also available in the area. The colony is at a stone’s throw from the famous Malviya Nagar market.

South Delhi

South Delhi is an administrative district of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in India.

It is bounded by the Yamuna River to the east, the districts of New Delhi to the north, Faridabad District of Haryana state to the southeast, Gurgaon District of Haryana to the southwest, and South West Delhi to the west.
