Chief of the Royal Danish Navy

The Chief of the Royal Danish Navy is the professional head of the Royal Danish Navy. Originally the position was held by the Admiralty and Commissioners College, which existed from 1660 until the end of absolute monarchy in 1848.[1] Following the end of absolutism, the Minister of the Navy was created becoming the highest position in the Navy.[2] With the collection of the Ministry of the Navy and the War Minister in 1905, command of the navy was moved again.[3] Following the creation of the Defence Command in 1969, the commands for the three branches was collected, giving power to the Chief of Defence. On 1 January 2019, as part of the Danish Defence Agreement 2018–23, the Danish name was changed Naval Command.[4]

The current Chief of the Naval Command is Rear admiral Torben Mikkelsen (appointed 1 June 2017).
