Abu Road

Abu Road is a city and municipality in Sirohi district of Rajasthan state in western India. It is the tehsil headquarters of Abu Road Tehsil by that name. It lies southeast of Mount Abu and its railway station is an important stop on the main Indian Railways line between Delhi and Ahmedabad. Mount Abu is 27 km up the hill from Abu Road.

The old name of Abu Road city was Kharadi. The Rajputana Malwa Railway set up the railway station here on 30 December 1880, and the station was named Abu Road. The road to Mount Abu was built in 1845, during the rule of Maharao Shiv Singh of Sirohi.


Abu Road is located at 24°29′N 72°47′E / 24.48°N 72.78°E[1] on the banks of river west banas. It has an average elevation of 263 m (863 ft).


As of the 2011 India census,[2] Abu Road had a population of 55,595. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Abu Road has an average literacy rate of 80.81%, higher than the state average of 66.11%.89.63% of the males and 70.97% of females are literate. 11.89% of the population is under 6 years of age.


Abu Road enjoys all types of weather. In Summer, it's hot and humid with an average temperature of 40 Degrees with hot sandy winds. In Winter, it's 7 to 14 degrees, which is quite cold as compared to other cities in Rajasthan and in Monsoon, the average rainfall is about 14 to 20  inches per season.


RIICO Industrial Area

RIICO Industrial Area is spread over an expanse of 2,000 acres (8.1 km2). The main industries are marble & granite, miniature cement plants, HDPE bags, synthetic yarns, mineral grinding, ABS resin, and insulators.

Diesel Shed

The railway's diesel shed located here provides employment to a large number of people and holds an important place in town's economy. The Diesel Shed at Abu Road was commissioned by Indian Railways as a metre gauge shed on 26 October 1966. It was then the largest MG shed of Western Railway with holdings of 112 locomotives. With broad gauge conversion, the shed was converted to a BG shed with holdings of 60 locomotives. There are 68 supervisors and 570 workers in the shed.

A diesel training centre is located at the shed that conducts promotional, refresher and special courses for locomotive running staff as well as formal training of shed maintenance staff.


The city being the largest city in Sirohi district is well-connected by road and rail.


Abu Road railway station comes under the administrative control of North Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. It has direct rail links on the broad gauge to the cities of Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Mysore, Puri, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Delhi, Dehradun, Muzaffarpur, Bareilly and Jammu. It is connected to most of the cities and towns in Gujarat such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodra, Bhuj and Porbandar. Thus providing transport facility to Sirohi and Jalor district..


National Highway 27 connecting Beawar in Rajasthan with Radhanpur in Gujarat passes through Abu Road, thus connecting it with the cities of Pali, Palanpur. Further, State Highways in Gujarat SH 712, SH 132 pass through Palanpur and connect Abu Road with nearby towns in Gujarat. State Highway SH 41 connects it with Mehsana & Ahmedabad. Abu Road is well connected via bus, more 150 buses are departure from Abu road to other cities.


Abu Road has its own Air Strip which is not in use for transport purpose. The nearest domestic Airport is the Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur which is 164 km away and nearest International Airport is the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad which is 193 km far.

Mungathala is an old village in Sirohi district of in Indian state of Rajasthan. It lies about 10 km north to Abu Road. Its old name is Mungasthala. The Saiva temple of Mogadesvara and Jain temple of Mahavira were celebrated temples of the place.

This place was believed to be visited by Lord Mahavira. An inscription of 1369 AD found on the door of inner room in Jivitasvami Shri Mahavira Jain temple here tells us that

Lord Mahavira visited Arbudabhumi and an image was consecrated during the 37th year of life of Shri Mahavira.

National Highway 27 (India)

National Highway 27 (NH 27), an East - West National highway in India that starts from Porbandar and terminates in Silchar, the highway passes through the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam.

NH-27 was laid and is maintained by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). This is the second longest National Highway in India after National Highway 44 and is a part of NS-EW Corridor of NHAI.

Pindwara is a city in Sirohi district of Rajasthan, India. Pindwara is located about 24 km from Sirohi, 50 km from Abu Road, 100 km from Udaipur and 70 km from Mount Abu. The nearest airport is Udaipur.

The cement and Marble industry is the major industry of the area. JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd and Ultratech Cement are two large cement units based in the area. The our railway station is pindwara - a station on Delhi Ahmedabad rail route and is at the edge of Pindwara town. Abu Road railway station is 55 km away.

Many of the locals of the town have settled all across the country like in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh etc. Ancient temple of Lord Mahavir by Samprati Maharaja is situated in the middle of the city. An ancient temple dedicated to Shiva known as th eGopeshwarji Mahadev Temple is around 3 km from Pindwara. Another ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva known as Markundeshawar (situated in Ajari village) is around 2 km from Pindwara.

Pindwara is located near many tribal villages. The city is famous for its marble carving works. Marble carvings of Sri Ram Temple, Ayodhya are being carried out in the city.

Vivek Express

Vivek Express is a chain of express trains on the Indian Railways network. These trains were announced in the Railway Budget of 2011-12 by the then Railway Minister. These trains were started to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, to be held in 2013. One of the Vivek Express trains, the one from Dibrugarh to Kanyakumari, is the longest route on the Indian Railways network, in terms of distance and time, and is the 8th longest in the world.
